Up until a few months ago I didn't have a rooster so last year when I got a broody chicken I bought in fertile eggs - Ms Lottie gave me some and when she didn't have any I bought them online! That way you can choose a good breeder and see photos of their chickens and pick what you like! Of course there's the chance you end up with loads of boys which I did this year. Out of 12 fertile eggs this year I only got three girls!
KIng Bertie is an araucana and I don't have any araucana girls so if I get a broody this year - which I will - I'll hatch a couple of his crossbreed eggs but will buy in again as well. Ms Lottie breeds lovely chickens and keeps the breeds in separate runs when she wants to breed.Laura @ Our Wee Farmhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14240391312194055909noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31981511.post-14604451478787813622011-08-25T20:47:29.404+12:002011-08-25T20:47:29.404+12:00They are just perfect! Mine are ending up all very haphazard so nowhere near as pretty - still productive though. Hope you have settled right back in now. Today I re-arranged things out near their run and they were so funny to watch. They're not so bright and because something was a bit different they kept going back and forth wondering why they couldn't get back the way they usually do.veggiegobblerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17455990251167385168noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31981511.post-25958201815750730232011-08-25T16:06:12.387+12:002011-08-25T16:06:12.387+12:00Thats one nice chookie bottom,,I do love the fluff...Thats one nice chookie bottom,,I do love the fluffy bums...
I have a Mavis, and Audrey....who are laying beautifully...now we are getting two small white eggs from the new girls, Valmai and Tiffany, Kate is yet to lay....we got rather a large white one today and I suspect it will be a double yolker,,,I love them!
It is always lovely when new girls start laying, quite the celebration.....Enchanted Momentshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01861732559521175206noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31981511.post-62606333135146609962011-08-25T15:55:57.831+12:002011-08-25T15:55:57.831+12:00Looks like you have some really good layers! They were completely free ranging and hid them really, really well. I rehomed my girl ducks at our friends house - she has a huge pond some distance away from the house - we were finding that 19 ducks stamping around on the deck making the most horrendous racked was a bit much! But I wanted to keep some so decided on the three boys - they were just young and had never had a girlfriend before, so I thought, what they don't know wont hurt them! (if they got sad and depressed they were ok to go to the pond too) but they seem delighted to still be here and are spoiled rotten by us and our lovely neighbour who entices them over with tit bits!Laura @ Our Wee Farmhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14240391312194055909noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31981511.post-65624779465517834542011-08-25T15:37:41.488+12:002011-08-25T15:37:41.488+12:00Oh!
