Not your usual egg layer
She was wandering around looking for a safe, shady spot to lay her eggs. She was huge.
I like praying mantis a lot. I reckon they look like aliens. They're pretty good for the garden as well, munching away on lots of wee beasties you don't want ( and some you do, unfortunately) We have absolutely loads of them here. I remember seeing one in Spain when I was about 11 thinking it was amazing and how rare they must be - not a thing you often spied in the back garden in the north of Scotland!
I've never seen one that close-up before. They do look like little aliens.
ReplyDeleteFantastic photo! She almost looks coy - head tilted, red lips....!! How could any male mantis resist? I love the babies; an exact copy of the big ones but in absolute minature.
ReplyDeleteShe is a looker isn't she!!!
ReplyDeleteI love how she's put on her lipstick all squiff!
ReplyDeletelottie - last year I watched an egg hatch - hundreds of teeny ones came out! They weren't green though, but sort of see through beige!
That's a cool photo! I saw one on my back fence today..I think he is the same one I found in my tomatoes last week. Perhaps he is my resident mantis.
ReplyDeleteEeeek! Too close, but mesmerisingly wonderful. Great shot.
