It's only early spring and this is what the ground looks like in some places. It's not like we've had no rain either, but I reckon the ground can't have fully recovered from the drought last year. This is after about a week of no rain and a lot of wind last week.
Not good.
This, however, does bode well! Elderflowers, already! MMmmm elderflower champagne.
Again..you take the most lovely pictures! ;) Rachel
ReplyDeleteYes I think the wind dried everything out! Today was really hot too, I had to get out the watering can!
ReplyDeleteWe had a summer like that about three years ago. Thankfully we had enough rain this year that it's not that bad. Is this a sign of how your summer will be?
ReplyDeleteWow, that is dry, but the flowers are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteIf we had ground cracked like that, we would certainly be screaming, "drought!" Our farmers would be devastated. Your pictures are really good!

Elderflowers are wonderful. Great way to live Nothing
ReplyDeleteHow easy is it to take cuttings from elders? I really would love one here. I would like to say that we have no cracked earth here! Just mud!
ReplyDeleteSue, it's SO easy. I pruned the one in the chicken run big time and just took some of the pruned bits and stuck them into the ground for a friend - they all seem to have taken, so I reckon they are probably some of the easiest things to grow from cuttings. If I was nearer you could come and hack away to your hearts content - we have loads! Don't know if they would post though!
ReplyDeleteChristine, the long range forecast is for another drought in Northland, but starting a bit later then last years one. I think the problem is that the ground hasn't really totally recovered yet.
