Before, during and after...

I mentioned this morning that Matt and Elliott were here doing some work on the laundry area in the house. Well it's finished already and I LOVE it.
This was it by the end of the day!

Before it was  plain, ugly and actually a bit more cluttered than this pic would have you believe!

During the work

After ~ yippee!

The slab of wood came up amazingly and I just waxed it ( I have this amazing orange blossom wax so the room smells lovely) I bought the fabric for the curtain yesterday so had it all sewn ready - still got the hem to do, it's just pinned in the pic.
Behind the curtain is the washing machine and on the other side Matt put in a lot of shelves so the cleaning products and laundry stuff are all neatly hidden away.

Also in the background behind the laundry room you can just see the larder - this ties in rather nicely with Rhonda's post yesterday The pantry is making a come back. We used to have a tatty lean to at the back of the house, basically the cats just slept there. Last year we ( well Matt!) lined it all out and put shelves up and we made it into a pantry. All of Lloyds preserves and sauces are stored there. It's really good to have this space as we have a tiny house with no real storage space at all.

  1. Absolutely fabulous. It always amazes me on UK home shows that they never have a laundry, in Aus, we all have laundrys, but do we really need them? I think your 'wash' area, is just beautiful, simple and all you need....we are doing plans for our extension, and I keep saying, because of $$$$$ 'do we really need a laundry'..lol....
That bench looks amazing, well done Laura...x

  2. Love it! BTW, Terry loved the tomato sauce you brought. He was scarfing it down with some yummy sausages from Churchill's Fine Meats from Waipapa this weekend. It will be much enjoyed.

  3. oh excellent, I'm so pleased :)
Lloyd has got well through one bottle as well!

You know, we never had a laundry before, and this is really just a corridor - but now that we've had it made nice it feels more like a room.

  5. Your new laundry looks just gorgeous! It is such an economical use of space. Our wash area is set in the mudroom with enough real estate to incorporate plenty of storage for things like saddles, riding boots, wet weather gear and the like.

  13. Yes! Lloyd got the Indian cook book for christmas from his mum and dad :)

FlowerLady, the matt that did this isn't the Matt of Liz and matt :) They helped with our old falling apart gate though which is now finished and looking lovely. They left us last week and are off down south to continue their adventures, thank you so much for showing me Liz's blog, without you we'd never have met them! xx

  18. That has got to be the prettiest laundry I have ever seen! I will be referring back to this for inspiration for my laundry which is on my to do list for 'making prettier'. Thank you so much for sharing this!
