The best gardening tool in the world?

....Probably.

I've seen these around - I know The Stone Store in Kerikeri sells them -  and I've often been so close to buying myself one. Now I wonder why I didn't.

I was lucky enough to get one for Christmas this year from my lovely friend, Kate. The weather has cleared up today for pretty much the first time since Christmas day, so I decided to get off my bottom and do some well needed weeding.

And it was a revelation! This tiny wee tool makes everything so much easier, and there are so many different ways to use it. I wish I'd bought one the day we moved into the farm.

If I get loads of comments saying
~
yes of course!
Can't believe you didn't have one already!
Aren't they great!

I'll be most unhappy. Don't you realise us novice gardeners need all the help we can get? We're on a steep learning curve, here! Don't keep secrets from us!! We need you!

Can you tell what it is, yet?
Yep, it's one of these. A weedy, hooky, thingymi jig . I don't even know exactly what it's called. A weed hook? Who knows, but it is quite simply the best thing I've ever seen. ( for gardening  )  Now, I wonder if they do it in pink?

  1. I have never seen one before. I'm so glad it works well. I use an old kitchen knife. Tell me how it works.

  3. No, never seen one before either. Is it better than the traditional 2 prong fork?

  4. It's better than anything I've ever used. For weeding - you can either sort of dig round weeds with a tap root then pull them out. For little weeds drag it through the ground - about 1-2cm down and it pulls up the wee weeds and they get caught on the hook ! Amazing!!!! I just faffed around with it. I'm sort of glad I wasn't the only person who didn't know about them!!

Believe or not my farm got a weed remover that we made for a little price and it can remove the entire weed in the garden. We used a biased motor and a Blue Sapphire cutting string. The string was attached to the end of the motor and as it rotates, with the speed weeds will throw into the air. Only problem is that you will have to clean it up later!

  6. A great device for making effective work of the weeds. My job is to weed the lawns. I use a chisel to dig deep in to get at the roots.

  7. Isn't it fun to get a handy tool for the hard work in the garden? I haven't seen one like this before either.
Wishing you and Lloyd a wonderful 2012, Laura. May all your dreams come true. Maa. (Susan)

  9. love the tool, the shape reminds me of my tool which I use...it's an old paint roller without the roll. I love this tool for the garden.

  13. Oh I love mine, and yes it is the best tool ever! You can make them out of a piece of number 8 wire... good ole kiwi ingenuity!
