A morning at the beach

At this time of year there are a lot of holiday makers up in the Bay Of Islands. Great for us, as the Acorn is booked out solidly, so we'll try to save the income and go to Rarotonga in September, which will be a huge bonus!
However, it does mean that the beaches are packed.

Yesterday we were having our house sprayed.
It's the lesser of 2 evils - spray or white tails - I choose spray!

We had to be away for 4 hours.
So we took the dogs to our secret beach. It's way, way at the end of a dirt road. Holiday makers would never find it unless someone told them, which means that if you go early, there's a very good chance you'll get the whole beach to yourself  - excellent if you have three large dogs.

We arrived and it was deserted! Whoohoo!
There is nothing our dogs like better than the beach. Lulah goes in swimming just for the sheer joy of it. Bob loves it too and it's incredibly good for his arthritis - which has been amazingly good since he's on tablets for it - so much so that our lovely vet said to try giving it to him every second day and see how things go.

Brodie likes the water very much, but is more of a paddler.

Anyway, we had a very enjoyable couple of hours. Just as we were leaving 4 guys launched their wee boat to go for a fish, but apart from that we didn't see a soul. Rock on secret beaches!!

And didn't the dogs have fun!

Check out Bob's teeth!!

Look, I can do a handstand!

Lula having a shake!! Anyone else think of the comedy show "Little Britain" when they see this? heehee. (I'll give you a hint...look into the eyes, the eyes, the eyes...)

Bob decided to dry himself on Lloyd, who thankfully, thought it was pretty funny!

  2. Secret beaches huh??? Rock on alright!! If we take our dogs to the beach we go out to Raglan, West Coast so black sand. Oscar isn't a small white dog for long. They are hilarious to watch as they bound in and out of the surf. Your photos are great, my favourite is the hand stander!! Yay for summer!!

  4. Excellent Great shots!! Yep I've lots of very happy memories of dogs and beaches too.. I used to walk dogs every day on the Witterings beach here in West Sussex and get paid for it... I couldn't believe I was actually getting paid for doing some thing so wonderful!
Then when I lived in Goa I used to take a whole group of dogs down to the beach and over time got them to get into the sea with me... it used to clear up all the cases of mange and other skin problems... it was always lovely to see them having a bit of fun too...

    1. I used to be a dog walker too!!!
I did it in Glasgow before we moved here - whenI gave up teaching. Got in with a lovely group of dog walkers when I walked Bob every day, then I stood in for them if one went on holiday. I loved it and I really miss that wee group of dogs and people.
