Fred's on the change

The chrysalis has gone much darker and if I stand really quietly and watch I can see it moving as things happen inside! He also moves more if I shine a torch on him, so I think he likes that, but Lloyd said he's saying "turn that light off!" I'm really not sure how long he's got to go like this, but he's in the living room so if he emerges overnight the door is shut so no dogs can get him. I thought it was probably the safest place but the room is darker so if anyone thinks he needs more light let me know and I can move him.

I can see the colour of his wings through the chrysalis now, clearly red.

  1. One of my grandmother's friends used to have 100's of monarchs in her living room. She had to be very careful, but on hatching day it was a sight to behold.

  2. Thank you so much for sharing this with me Laura! I have 4 children (5,4,3 and 17 months) and I am 27 weeks pregnant. I have been enjoying the pictures and it is awesome for homeschooling too!!

I have been taking notes because it would be a wonderful blessing to have our own butterflies one day!

  7. Laura, Im so excited!!! can ya tell??? it is 42degrees plus here today, and I have the mist sprayers on in the yard for the pets...it cools the air and makes it a little more bearable...and under my elm tree are butterflies, flying in and resting in the mist...!!!! I tried to take some pics but as they are there with wings folded very very still, you cant see their beautiful size and colour....it must be such a relief for them to be flying around in this intolerable heat to find a cool place to rest....I am sure they are Fred's Ozzie cousins...lol..xx
