We feel horror and sympathy for everyone affected by the earthquake in Christchurch. After beginning the slow recovery from the earthquake in September, they were yet again rocked by a huge aftershock yesterday which has killed many and destroyed vast areas of the city and outlying areas.
Watching the news all day yesterday I was reminded of footage from the Twin Towers  - debris and dust clouds with people emerging from them. It's truly horrific.

It's incredibly emotional. New Zealand is a tiny country, we have a small population, this affects everyone. It's quite simply, a total disaster.

You're all in my thoughts today. I do wish there was something I could do, here on the other side of the world.

  14. Thanks all, we're not even affected but I just feel so sad for everyone.

Charlotte I was glued to the news for about 5 hours yesterday until I was so numb I had to turn it off - then I felt guilty foe being able to do that. :(

  15. Yes indeed. We were out in town shopping, saw the news on a big screen TV while passing some bar - people were congregating around so we wondered what was going on.
What a truly awful thing to happen.

  18. Come down and help dig us out - we need volunteers on 18,19,20 March. You can camp at the A&P Showgrounds/Cantrbury Ag Park - there are flush loos and drinking water (no showers). Bring your shovels (AirNZ lets you bring them for free) and we will assign you to a team and you can dig people's houses out of the silt - there will be plenty still there then. Be part of the Farmy Army.
