A little Miracle

The day before yesterday, in the evening, one of the Freds went into his J shape, which means they're going to start forming their chrysalis. All the others that have done this did it in the evening as well and I've missed the transformation because it's happened at night and also it's really fast once it gets going!
I assumed the same thing would happen with this one, but when I got up he was still in his J. All day he stayed the same. It was taking so long I thought something was wrong. However last night, with perfect timing just as we were about to go out, he started wriggling around. I stayed to watch and it happened right in front of me!! His skin split, he shook around and within 5 minutes he was a chrysalis. I didn't want to leave and get my camera, but I did. As it was dark and I don't know how to use a flash properly, these are not the best photos by any means, but I was so excited!

When I went to get the camera the skin was only as far as the large green bit, by the time I got back it had gone up this far!

Once the skin was off he twirled round and round and sort of inserted himself into the little web like bit you can see at the top. It was amazing how much he wriggled around.

And finally here he is this morning  - completely transformed
A wee miracle.

  5. :)
    I keep checking on him!
Judith, he should be like this for 10-15 days. I have three that are past the 10 day mark and don't look like they are doing a whole lot, but I think I can see wings formed but not with red colour yet. I am so hoping that there's success and butterflies hatch.
