I've been putting off and putting off doing anything in the veggie garden. It just makes me so sad looking at the dead, blighted tomatoes and the lovely chillis that won't come ready an the aubergines that won't come ready... and the weeds and the mess... but today the sun was shining and we had no plans so I decided to just stop moaning and get on with it.
I started off in the herb garden - there was some sort of Vietnamese herb that had completely taken over, worse still we didn't even like it! So it had to go. It took forever to chop it down but it's gone. Whew!
Then I removed all the dead tomatoes and Lloyd put away all the frames for me. I so hope they get on better next year.
After that it was a lot of weeding - still a lot more to do.
And finally I tackled the Asparagus bed. I'm not sure if I've done this right or if I'm a little early, but I trimmed off all the dead ferns, then weeded it. Lloyd and I collected donkey and alpaca poo from the paddocks and picked up some hay from the barn. We put the poo all round the asparagus, then put the whole lot to bed under a blanket of lovely hay. I hope this means it will be even more prolific next summer. (It was one of the successful things this year)
As I type this Lloyd is making a chilli sauces - it was so strong we had to get the wee camping stove and move the whole thing outside - we couldn't stay in the kitchen i was burning our throats and eyes! I won't be able to tell you what it's like as I've never once been able to taste one of his sauces!
That sauce sounds too hot for me this year I am growing chilis though.
ReplyDeleteI just bought my first asparagus crowns. Just waiting until it stops raining long enough to plant my asparagus bed.
